PUF-SealŽ

PUF-SealŽ is a water-blown polymer that does not contain ozone-depleting chemicals and is highly resistant to acid-rock drainage (ARD). Within minutes after mixing two liquid reagents, a resin and catalyst, PUF-SealŽ expands rapidly to fill all voids and cracks in the opening. The resultant foam quickly hardens; forming a rigid plug firmly bound to the rock. The inert plug will not shrink and protects against ground water contamination. PUF-SealŽ is extremely stable and only breaks down when exposed to UV radiation (sunlight) or fire. Degradation can be prevented by covering the finished foam plug with at least 2-3 feet of soil cover.

The central advantage of using PUF is that large mine openings can be closed rapidly using a small amount of materials and minimal equipment. PUF is lightweight, easily transportable in reasonable quantities to remote sites by backpack, 4-wheel ATVs, horse pack train or helicopter. While considered a cost effective alternative, PUF costs comparison need to be made on a case by case basis since PUF is usually utilized where other alternatives are not viable. PUF has also been successfully used to secure a culvert bat-gate to the portal of a mine adit after a determination has been made to preserve bat habitat.

PUF-SealŽ is available in tough, portable bagged containers (boxed 1 cu yd) for transport into remote mine or construction site areas. This type of packaging is well adapted to sensitive (wilderness or historically significant) areas where only low-impact alternatives are acceptable. In addition, PUF-SealŽ is sold in bulk (drums approx. 15 cu yds) or totes (approx. 75 cu yds) amounts for mechanical application at those abandoned mines or construction sites with good road access.

State and Federal agencies, such as the States of Colorado, New Mexico and California, BLM, Forest Service, National Park Service, and Native American tribes, all currently utilize polyurethane foam closures in their abandoned mines program. Mining companies use PUF in underground applications for ventilation walls, sealing water leaks, closing old drill holes and for air decking during quarry or open-pit blasting.

PUF-Seal Technical Data Sheet
HS 1117 - 2.6

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: The HS 1117 - 2.6 polyurethane foam systems are designed for molding and void filling applications. The product has been designed to meet a specific variety of reactivity requirements without sacrificing product safety. HS 1117 - 2.6 has been formulated with water as the blowing agent. The unique handling characteristics of the HS 1117 - 2.6 series systems provide ease of mixing by hand, machine or portable (boxed) PUF, and produces a uniform product with excellent cell structure. This product does not contain CFC blowing agents or other Ozone Depleting chemicals (HCFC/141-B).
